Market
Brief for Argentina
The
Jewish community in Argentina is estimated at 300,000 people mainly
concentrated in specific neighborhoods in the city of Buenos Aires an its
suburbs. This turns Argentina
in the 5th. country with the largest Jewish community after the
U.S., Israel, France and Russia.
Argentina’s
Orthodox Jewish community, estimated at approximately 40,000 people, eat
only kosher food. On the other hand, non - orthodox Jews eat only kosher
food during religious celebrations.
It
is estimated that actually 70% of kosher food products consumed are
manufactured locally and the remaining 30% are imported.
Trends
indicate that Argentina is fast becoming an exporter of Kosher Products.
Local producers are aiming for the international markets based on
high quality standards and a favorable rate of exchange.
Most
of the largest supermarket chains in Brazil, Chile and Argentina are
offering kosher food to their customers targeting not only the Jewish
community but also the quality-oriented health lovers as well as organics
and celiac.
